My graduating research project for my Counselling Psychology degree was around the intersection of mental health and autism, and one of the biggest issues I encountered is that so many people have a very narrow view of what autism actually is. And that goes for mental health clinicians as well as the general public. This book goes a long way towards breaking down some of the misunderstandings of autism, and I highly recommend it not only to people who believe they might be autistic, but to everyone.
As the book (and research about autism more broadly) highlights, rates of autism are much higher than what is recognized in the current diagnosis parameters. Even if you "don't know anyone" who is autistic, the reality is that you probably do, and this book will help expand your understanding of the world of neurodiversity. It carefully breaks down misconceptions, presents a fuller picture of what autism can look like, and brings forward ideas about how to build and design more inclusive spaces, work practices, and interpersonal relationships. This information can help you advocate for yourself, others, and build a more accessible world.
This is not the first time I've reviewed a book by Devon Price, but the link (again) to learn more about his writing is here.
